A message to voters from Laura: After careful consideration, I have decided to run and
am committed to be a new voice in the California State Assembly. It is
my intention that my voice be a voice for all of us.
I am running for State Assembly in the ninth
district because I understand that many of us are going through trying
times: Californians are frustrated with their leaders and are worried,
and that is why voters deserve a real choice in the election of 2010.
Sacramento and all of California, needs representatives that are ready
to engage in the kind of progressive thinking endorsed by a large
mandate in the election of November 2008. I believe now is the time
for me to step up to the challenges of leadership in state government.
Now is the time for me to perform my civic duty, because I strongly
believe in Sacramento and the spirit of the the people who call it home.
Born and educated in Sacramento, I will use my
familiarity with district nine and my special history to be a strong
democratic representative. Having worked in the legislature for only
a few years, I recognize I am new to politics, but I have spent more
than enough time in Sacramento to realize a need for improvement. We are all
making sacrifices for our families, and when these families are let
down by their elected representative, the very people we sent to the
state house to protect us, something has to change. We all know that
change is vital to getting out of the mess our elected officials have
driven us into.
I will fully
dedicate myself to connecting our leaders in government with leaders in
the community. I will tirelessly pursue reaching out to the communities
that need help, communities that need representation that is for them
and their children, and not for special interests that have taken our
representatives down the wrong path. I believe
in bridging the government with its constituents and promoting the
accountability that is inherent in government by the people like our
country's founding fathers intended.
I am proud to be the door-to-door candidate,
because my goal is to reach as many voters as humanly possible so that
they may interact with their future representative. Looking
forward to this election process, I believe a lively debate between all
the candidates is necessary and hope this happens in a fair and open
manner.
I believe in returning California to a leader in
equal opportunity, education, technology, finance, and green science
and I will work hard to ensure this happens. I do not believe in pursuing my own personal ambitions as a public servant: this role is larger than any personal goal.
Sacramento has the people, the spirit and the
history that needs to be channeled and recharged of its significance
and progressive thinking, not only in the state but in the nation's
awareness. It is time for a new generation to rise up to the challenges we face. Together we will keep change happening and restructure our broken state government.
